PLAN FOR THE WEATHER!

Although this area of France is often hot in the daytime, people underestimate how cold it can get at night. Be sure to bring many layers of warm clothing and shawls/blankets to stay warm at night and for sadhana (it is hard to meditate when you are cold!) Also bring rain gear, so that you can still enjoy the camp if it rains.

MOBILES AND WIFI

We recommend that 9 days of a ‘digital detox’ will bring you to a deeper experience of Self. However, we understand it is not always possible to simply turn your phone off for a week. If you must use your mobile at the Festival, please try and keep this to a minimum, and keep your phone in airplane mode as much as possible. The wifi on-site is working well. We now offer a mobile charging station next to Safeguards. If you bring along your mobile charger (and converter to a French plug, if needed), you will be able to charge your mobile there in security.


ESSENTIALS TO BRING

Here we have the complete packing list of what is essential and some optional ‘nice to have along’ things – written and shared by veteran yogis of the Festival.

Plan ahead, both to ensure that you have a comfortable experience and also to lower your environmental impact on the site. Please keep this ecological aspect in mind as you select items to bring with you. If you need anything for the festival that you don’t already have, consider borrowing it or buying something that will last or can serve other purposes as well.

FOR CAMPING

(unless you reserve a bed in one of the dorms/rooms):

Essentials: Tent, camping pad/mattress, warm sleeping bag, pillow

Optional: earplugs, possibly a camping chair or hammock

FOR MEALS

Essentials: plate, bowl, cutlery, cups for both hot and cold beverages – preferably NOT GLASS, cloth napkins, mat to sit on (can be the same for Sadhana/Workshops/White Tantric Yoga/21 Stages of Meditation). Please do not bring disposable plates and cups.

Waterbottle – preferably NOT GLASS (because we are an outdoor festival, with many young yogis running around)

Avoid metal ustensiles: to avoid getting burned and burn those serving you hot soup.

Optional: some kind of container with a lid, in case you want or need to save your food and keep it away from bugs and bees. There is a station to wash your dishes after each meal. You might want to bring a towel to dry your dishes or a bag with holes to let them air dry.

FOR SADHANA

(Early Morning Meditation)

A plastic groundsheet – to insulate and protect from the damp/dew

Something to keep you warm: thick socks, either a fleece or down jacket, a thick blanket, shawl, or sleeping bag.

Some people use a headlamp so they can read and follow Japji. (Bring your own copy of Japji too!)

FOR WORKSHOPS, 21 STAGES OF MEDITATION

Yoga mat, rug, or sheepskin

Optional: notebook, meditation pillow, or whatever your body needs to make meditating for long periods more comfortable.

CLOTHING

Both light and warm clothing and rain gear.  The temperature can vary widely from cool evenings and mornings to hot days.

Workshops: Comfortable clothes for practicing yoga

White Tantric Yoga or 21 Stages of Meditation: Comfortable white clothes for three days of tantric and a white cotton headcover. Please ensure that your clothes and headcover are completely white (no secondary colors; no patterns) for these three days. Many vendors in the bazaar sell white cotton clothing and headcovers.

Sadhana: warm, comfortable clothing (warm socks, wool sweater, fleece or down jacket, maybe even a warm hat, warm shawl)

Karma Yoga: dirt-resistant clothes or an apron (it’s best not to chop beetroot in your white clothing!)

Optional: Laundry eco-friendly detergent or soap if you need to hand wash any clothes.

HYGIENE

Flip flops or shower shoes

Towel (some clotheslines available to hang towels in the shower area or near the restrooms – or you may choose to bring your own line to hang near your tent)

Toiletries: sunscreen, soap, lip balm, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. Please note do not use any scented products or perfumes (even natural/essential oils) during 21 Stages of Meditation and All Camp workshops.

PERSONAL FIRST AID KIT

Don’t forget to bring your personal first aid kit and if you are under any medical treatment don’t assume the yogic practice will replace it…. Keep taking them.

FOR CHILDREN’S CAMP

Raincoat and boots, Sweater, Walking shoes, Change of clothes, Water bottle, Plate, bowl, cup, and cutlery for meals at Children’s camp, Special snacks or food (if there is a food allergy or special diet), Sunscreen and sunhat, Blanket, Swimsuit and swim shoes (for outings), Towel, Nappies/diapers for toddlers.

Please label all items with your child’s name and put in a sturdy backpack or carrying bag

OTHERS

Water bottle, Flashlight, Medical travel kit with tick tweezers (there are ticks in the area), Money pouch or wallet to carry passport and money with you (for security reasons).

Optional: musical instrument, camera (no photos allowed during White Tantric Yoga, and please ask permission before you take anyone’s photo), audio recorder.

Please bring enough cash as the nearest ATM is far away and we would like you to plan not to leave the festival to avoid Covid-19 exposure.

WHAT NOT TO BRING

Drugs, Alcohol, Cigarettes/vapes, Any flammable materials including candles, incense, lighters, and matches (this goes for vendors in the bazaar as well), Meat, Pets/Animals, Aerosol sprays, Disposable plates and cups

WHAT TO AVOID BRINGING

Please keep your electronic devices to a minimum as there are limited electrical outlets for recharging them

Valuables: there is nowhere with a lock to store valuables, so please be prepared to carry any valuables on you.

Extra food: Please avoid bringing extra food to keep waste to a minimum and so as to not attract animals. If you do bring any food, please store it in an airtight container.
Pregnant and nursing mothers have access to extra food and snacks at Toddlers’ camp

If you must buy something for the event from a local store, please think about unpacking the item at the store. 3,000 people can make an enormous amount of waste.

WHAT NOT TO LEAVE AT THE EUROPEAN YOGA FESTIVAL

Nothing should be left behind. We are working towards becoming a low-impact site, so please take with you whatever you bring – including your rubbish and your tents!
