Karma Yoga literally means “selfless action”. At the festival, everyone registers for a same-language or international Karma Yoga group. Each group contributes to important tasks in order to make the festival a success. The festival thrives on the joint effort of all those present.

Karma Yoga is an integral part of the European Yoga Festival experience – as is participating in Sadhana, the purifying diet, and attending the workshops.

It’s the part of the festival that invites you into group consciousness, to be part of something bigger than yourself. Consider it your chance – a training in service, training in going beyond limitations and serving the group. Karma Yoga is a chance to play an active role in the community and to do so with enthusiasm and dedication.

The terms Karma Yoga and Seva are often used interchangeably, but in fact, they are subtly different. Karma Yoga is your duty; Seva is what you offer from the heart.

Through the festival you will have opportunities to help – for example, you may see someone who needs help or we ask for 20 extra people to help chop vegetables. If you can, make yourself available for it.

Tips for a good Karma Yoga experience

  • Approach Karma Yoga with enthusiasm, panache, and energy.
  • Take an active part in your group – be on time and stay until the end. You are needed!
  • To protect your clothes, bring an apron or some clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty (nobody wants to cut beets in white clothes!)
  • Whatever is going on inside you, tune into it with a smile.
  • Connect with your Karma Yoga group; get to know others; Share your experience.
  • Know that you don’t always have to do everything; There are also moments when you allow yourself to rest and let others serve you.

KARMA YOGA REGISTRATION FORM

Karma Yoga is often organized in same-language groups called Missels. Karma Yoga is the essential service that keeps the festival running smoothly.

Every morning between 10:00 and 11:15 a.m. there is a Missel meeting for your group.

It’s important to attend these meetings – it’s an opportunity to meet people in a smaller group, share announcements and information that are important to us, and share what’s on your mind, so that the group may support you.

Missel meetings are often fun and playful and help us organize the Karma Yoga work better. Each group has its own schedule of when to do their Karma Yoga.
